Winter In The UK

It's actually beautiful in the winter.

It's just that there's so little of the sun during that season. It shows up at about 8am and gracefully and almost apologetically makes its exit at about 4pm.

That's after I start work and before I leave the office. I see so little of the sun. I guess that would be one of the few things I really miss - the scorching hot sun that is plentiful in Malaysia. We used to constantly complain about it.

I've gotten used to the cold and I'm hardly even bothered by it anymore. The subzero temperatures have deserted us for a bit though the blistering wind appears to have taken its place.

I like this season. I like this place.

I love that bleak-winter look. Yah, I know I am gila, and never denied it. But it's the wind I hate. Bitterly! It just cuts right through you and hits the bone, doesn't it?

No sun ah? Sunlight makes us happy - or so I'm told. So try to stand in glow of a sunbeam once in a while lah :)

Been thinking of you, and hoped you were doing well. From the tone here, sounds like you're upbeat. Cool!

Warm sunshiny hugs,

Pat

Glad you are enjoying the winter. I found the recent sub-zero temperatures bearable if it is not too windy and wet. I am amazed at how blue the sky is when it is not overcast.

Wrap up and go out for a walk at lunch time, otherwise you will only see the sun on weekends.

Pax.

Like the winter??? You must all be crazy! Cold and wet UK is the worst place to be in winter. I guess all of you have not stayed long enough to hate it.

My first winter there was okay - when everything was new and different but after so many years ... give me Malaysia any time.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. Sigh.

That's what is strange, Pat. I found the wind unbearable for a week from when I arrived. After that, I barely noticed it unless it was blowing my clothes off me. LOL. (No, I haven't been flashing anyone. Long story.) And yes, I will take your advice and spend some time in the glow of a sunbeam.

Zewt, is your office air-conditioning not working? :p I used to find those more torturous than living here.

Hitam, I have been planning to do just that. In fact, I'm planning a hiking trip tomorrow, though my Malaysian colleagues think I've completely lost it.

Rox, my 1st winter was rudely shocking to my system. But it's now my 3rd, and I'm certain I won't feel any different after many more years. For once, I'm actually considering what it would be like to live here permanently.

Grass is always greener on the other side, but think of your pay package and it won't be so bad. :)

Miss you too. I see you occasionally at Aisehman though.

Hi Miss C, a hike is a great idea to shake off the wintry blues, weather permitting. Or you can sail a dingy in one of the lakes...then it does not matter even if it rains!

Are you practising now to follow the footsteps of Wainwright later?

Pax.

Hitam I'm a Malaysian barbarian. I wouldn't know who Wainwright is or was.

Crankster said...

Okay, I googled it. Master Fellwalker and author of
'Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells'.

Hehe, by a couple of years I wouldn't be so fit anymore, so probably not. :)

I have some of Wainwright's books. You should have had a look when you were staying in Oz. You're perfectly capable of some of the walks in there. Even an old bloke like me can still do them.

Well, if you say so. :)

Hi Crankster..just saying hello.didn't know you are in the Uk?! Lovely day , isn't it!

Yeah, it started out raining here. :) Good ole Carol, the weatherwoman on BBC One was shivering as she told us how our day was going to be even before we got out of bed...
