Tunku Abdul Rahman's Great Grand-Daughter

Most of our Prime Ministers were crap leaders. Some made the distressing folly of reproducing - hence presenting us with the likes of Hishamuddin Hussein and Najib Razak.

We have heard more than our share from those buffoons. I personally don't want or need to hear anymore from them.

But we've had one good Prime Minister - the first, and the father of independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

It appears that the good genes have been passed on in the form of what looks like an average young Malaysian kid.

She is no ordinary kid though - she has amazing insight into what ails our nation.

Read what Tunku's great grand-daughter has to say about the Malaysian situation.

“Both my parents are Malay. My mum's heritage includes Chinese, Thai and Arab, while my dad is Minangkabau. Due to my skin colour, I am often mistaken for a Chinese.

I'm happy that I don’t have the typical Malay look but I do get annoyed when people call me Ah Moi or ask me straight up, "Are you Chinese or Malay?"

Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer "Malay" but now I'm trying to consciously answer Malaysian instead..

There's this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Judgement Day because I don’t have a Muslim name.

Of course, I was scared then but now that I'm older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn’t define you as a good or bad person and there is definitely no such thing as a Muslim name. You can be named Rashid or Ali and still be a Christian.

I’ve heard of the 1Malaysia concept, but I think we don’t need to be told to be united. We've come such a long way that it should already be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united.

Unfortunately, you can still see racial discrimination and polarisation. There is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non Malays are forever the outsiders.

For the concept to succeed, I think the government should stop with the race politics. It's tiring, really.

We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about 'us' and 'them' and focus on 'we', 'our' and 'Malaysians'.

No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once, "I don’t feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysia is my home, and I don’t feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there..

I know some Baba Nyonya friends who can trace their lineage back hundreds of years. I'm a fourth generation Malaysian. If I am Bumiputra, why can’t they be, too? Clearly I have issues with the term.

I think the main reason why we still can’t achieve total unity is because of this 'Malay rights' concept. I'd rather 'Malay rights' be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this Bumiputra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity.

For my merdeka wish, I'd like for Malaysians to have more voice, to be respected and heard. I wish that the government would uphold the true essence of parliamentary democracy. I wish for the people to no longer fear and discriminate against each other, to see that we are one and the same.

I wish that Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of 'Malaysia - Truly Asia'.

Such a refreshing post! I also firmly believe that Tunku Abdul Rahman is a very good PM, in fact, the BEST PM Malaysia has ever had. My family has had very close ties with his family for many decades...and indeed Sharyn Lisa Shufiyan demonstrates the maturity and characteristics of a true Malaysian.

Dear anonymous,

Did you know the immigration rates for Malays are higher than the Chinese?

I wonder what you mean when you say that the Chinese are sidelining the Malays. I do not disagree that in the business aspect the Chinese seem to dominate, but isn't the government helping the malays with other things such as education?

We are all sidelining each other.

I think this is why she wrote this article. There is too much of a divide between races. I believe that you exemplify this and the need for the government to do something about it.

People identify themselves as Chinese, Indian or Malay, and not Malaysian. Whilst in other countries, they say that they are American, Australian, etc.

Why is it not possible?

To the Malay extremist prick who goes by the name Azam Hafiz given by his snobbish idiotic parents who just waste their time producing such stupid son,

There's no such things as Tanah Melayu, it's not recognized by other countries back to before WWII, it existed only in Malaya. Dalam erti kata untuk memahamkan lahabau macam kau, Tanah Melayu adalah "Syok Sendiri". If you don't believe it(Obviously you don't, cause you're a scum), check every world maps in the world(old maps).

"your grandpa even though is Bapa Kemerdekaan

Her great grandfather initiated the independence talk, what did the Askar MALAYU did? Me-layu je. Tidak ada bukti yang Askar MALAYU berperang dengan Inggeris demi untuk mencapai kemederkaan. Askar MALAYU MAKAN GAJI British ada la hohoho! Ko dapat info mana? Baca buku Sejarah terbitan DEWAN BAHASA DAN PUSTAKA KAN!KAN!KAN! Alangkah cetek ilmu dak MALAYU ni.

"Kaum mana yang berhak untuk Tanah Melayu
tentunya melayu………
siapa yang paling banyak berjuang menuntut kemerdekaan
Melayu……
bangsa paling toleransi
Melayu……."

Tadi ko hina Tunku, bandingkan pencapaiannya dgn Askar Me-Layu, skang ko lak ckp siapa yg paling banyak berjuang, Tunku la hakikatnya! Ko bodoh la. Klu dh toleransi, rumah agam takkan dibakar, kerajaan takkan implement 30% syer syarikat-syarikat swasta mesti diberikan kpd kaum ko! Toleransi, Ya Allah...

To Sharyn, You had my support & my praise all the way, proud daughter of the best prime minister Malaysia ever had!

Your wisdom & maturity far exceeds those sitting in chairs meant for smarter brains, as well as those who demand respect because they're older. Malay, Chinese, Indian whatever race alike.

To the jackass by the name of Azam Aziz, may you rot in hell with your racist non-sense!

Check your history books right till the Parameswara's time. the "state-defined" Malays CAME from Indonesia! there were already people here who doesn't speak the so-called Malay when the prince got here! even after that, Malays had a lot of sub-groups & Islam a lot of different sects.

The bumiputra belongs to the orang asli! you guys're just immigrants like the rest of the West Malaysians today! the only difference is that Chinese, Indians & other races mostly came only several hundred years later! & the Baba Nyonya people probably had been here earlier than YOUR ancestors, yet they get no "bumiputra" privilege. now try explain that asshole!

If you say that Malays should rule because Malays're "bumiputera", then we should've an orang asli prime minister in the first place. & Tanah Melayu?? don't make me laugh! this place never belonged to the Malays alone in the first place!

There're hundreds, maybe thousands of history books out there about the history of Malaysia. toss that brain-washing highschool crap & open your eyes!

....the saddest part is.....a year or two from now...she will get hitched to a man of the same religion...and probably race....cos that's the standard la in malaysia...

....like it or not....the pressure from this relationship will beat her into a pulp....and her mind will be washed out and she will be another one of the many .....aku nak subsidi kerajaan....kenapa aku tak ada subsidi..... ayah aku bawak mercedes...tapi aku nak siswazah penuh ke UK....pas tu beli merc bawak balik tax kerajaan tanggung..... aku nak tu, tapi aku tak nak bayar...camne...?

Anonymous said...

...actually...to correct the askar melayu ifnormation shared here by this less read individual..... read books that are not published by the malaysian government ma...... then only la you get the full picture.... i was shoved the rubbish when i was in sekolah kebangsaan... but i also made some effort to read up....

..so this is the real story... malays are truly a bangsa bertoleransi.....cos if you go back to history....malays have always been the laid back wonderful people who lived along the coast and making a living out of the sea...they were poor la...but they were nice people la.....

tapi ...malays senang dibuat marah....bila marah....logik langsung tak ada..... that one...i dont know how to explain... nak ambil parang la...nak bunuh orang la.... yang tu aku tak faham.... macam budak umur tahun je...

....back to history...because the malays were bangsa bertoleransi....they never fough the war.... sure a handful in the askar regimen stood up against the komunis....but that was because the bri'ish ruled them....the bir'ish says sit...they sit....the bri'ish says stand....they stand.... (dont believe....??.....ask your self which malay fella dont want to go to UK to study....semuanya nak pergi ke UK...its one big kampung melayu in the UK....tapi ..as the word suggest....hanya KAMPUNG melayu ke la.... you never hear of MALAY town in western countries no...??hahahahaha...anyways... )

.....to be frank....the chinese in Malaysia suffered like cock.....u know why...??.....cos chinese can relate to asians..... but when we see foreigners...in this case, bri'ish and japanese come around and bossing us around.....we dont stand down and take it.... lets be honest la......at least admit it.... the malays were happy to take salary from the british and japanese alike.... why....?? -- cos they are bangsa bertoleransi.... honest to god... to the malays...as long as you pay them some money to feed their family....smile at them....give them nice positions but no power....they happy....

......malays are really tolerant people..... ....i visit a malay friend's house.... aku belum masuk gate lagi....tapi bila ayah dia dengar kereta aku kat luar..... dah kata kuat - kuat..."masuklah...masuklah..."
......mana ada bangsa lain macam tu......

Anonymous said...

....so....lets try to appreciate history..... the british knew how to manage the malays....and they did it well....until today....the malays only want to go to UK to study......yang left over...less prestigious and less connected....end up in USA and Australia.....the worst ones are actually in Australia la....they live like refugees there la.... even though they have full scholarships....they still live like refugees..... give them some nets...i bet they start fishing in yarra river....

....the british couldn't handle the chinese......we didnt take shit from them.....just like we didnt take shit from them with hong kong and took it back from them.....

...chinese can connect with the asians...(that means malay too la...so dont get jealous la...) ...but when we see foreigners treat the asian race like shit....we stand up la....

...so...the chinese did fight and fought with the british and japanese.....like it was their country they were fighting for..... for the love of god....treat them chinese with some respect...

here's an interesting thought....a british soldier...SAS...who in the tail of world war 2.....was in the jungles of Malaysia.....he made some interesting observations (but the book is still banned in malaysia)...and wrote a book about it...published in UK ah...so malays can trust this shit la....cos made in UK ma....your second kampong.... he said something like....the chinese were a real special bunch....fighting hard for the country.... by country he meant malaysia la.... but...in the words of the british SAS ah..not my words ah..... he said the malays were more happy to work with whoever who paid them salary...and the malays always preferred the path of least resistance..... WEI.....TRUE LA....bangsa bertoleransi MAAAAAA......wei....even the british saw it la...

..so dont askar melayu here...askar melayu there.... the malays have always been a relaxed race....its what malays are all about....

even the british knew it and used it to their advantage....

there is 1.6 billion chinese in this world.....sooner or later....everyone is going to be some form of chinese hybrid...or indian hybrids....cos there are 1.2 billion indian in the world.... better get used to it... a tolerant race would just accept it lo....

Well, I would say I am totally agreed with your opinion and your matured thinking. Thanks for the great post to voice out the words in our heart, what I think is, it just can't be happened in Malaysia, it is too ideal..

Well, of course everyone of us would be very happy to see that all of your wishes would come true in the future, but what I can say is, it is too ideal and it is almost impossible to become reality; and why is it so hard to achieve such ideal situation?? One word -- "Greed"!!

Yeah..melayu mudah lupa...try this chronological exercise for a change.

When did Parameswara founded Malacca?

Who visited Malacca in 1405?

Where did Parameswara went to in 1405 and 1411?

Who did the then fledging Malaccan Sultanate turned to for help and protection from the Siamese?

Why was the earlier civilization of Lembah Bujang ignored in much of our education? Eventhough it's in your precious Tanah Melayu?

Why? History ala UMNO?

You can say everything you want about delusional chinese, drunk indians and what not, but look yourself in the mirror first. Are you the perfect example?

As for Azam Hafiz, learn some manners, don't try to be a wannabe gangster. Really learn the constitution and our history before opening your mouth, you sound just like that katak Ibrahim Ali.

Off topic: Sharyn is really hot. End.

Were you there in the war? No? Stfu. Just because the majority are Malays who fought for it doesn't mean you can spout shits like that.

Singapore? What's so bad about it? Look at Malaysia...what's the difference? It's currently on bankruptcy yeah we all know whom and why yet they didn't realizes it.

I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to "ambil alih" a going to bankrupt soon yet we still must feed them "country?".

Who started the fight? Who creates havoc? It was non of us but well who knows what they believe in.

Without the other races in Malaysia, the "Malaysia" alone probably doesn't exist at all.

One Malaysia is stupid that's right. More like in west Malaysia, it's a Two Malaysia.

In the East, long surpasses one Malaysia even without the concept.

To Sharyn, way to go girl! You have my full respect and support!

I go by the name of Ben.

urgh. i dont even like this article. shes actually doesnt even like and to be Malay, and she come out with the idea of only Malaysian,no chinese, india or Malay.why just dnt simply write ...that there is no malay only?

race is what we are.yes we are Malaysian, but we're also belongs to group of ethnicity. its decribe us. it is not wrong for world to know us as, Im Malaysian, a Malay. or im Malaysian Chinese, or Malaysian Indian. Its decribe how multi racial we are, if life is too limited and no choices, its dull. like when we buying a car, what types of car, what colour? it generally describe the car, not diccriminating the car, just for varieties.

and for race, im proud to be Malay, it well desribe my skin colour, my religion. it just a specification for god sake. after all, we cant forget the roots arent we?

its just another idea to destroy who we are, to modernized us according to her shallow minded. it is just not wrong to be wearing this Malay, or chinese or Indian identity. It is call Human rights too, stand for who we are.
