Who Is The Pendatang?

It looks like our favourite pendatang is back with no apologies.

Make no mistake, ladies and gentlemen. We are ALL pendatang from some place or another, starting from Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

But first things first.

Someone check his legal papers to make sure there's no haram behind the pendatang. If so, we might need to engage in some deportation.

If not, we may need to give him a bit of education - something he is evidently lacking, hardly surprising since he belongs to UMNO.

But before I begin, perhaps I'd like to point out to everyone, that we all came into this world with nothing and we will all leave with nothing.

I believe that nothing actually belongs to us - we're merely temporary custodians of whatever we own, be it land or property. So I really don't see what the fuss is to establish who settled down first in this part of the planet.

And interestingly, the Shanghai Fish (who doesn't come from China) points out that for all the racial classification we do, Malaysia has never had a 'malay' Prime Minister since independence.

China and India have the two biggest populations in the whole of Asia. Ever so often, the two nations get a little crowded. So their citizens (or rather, inhabitants) cheerfully pack up their bags and find a new place to stay.

If you observe closely, the Indians and Chinese are crawling all over the world, in almost every city in every country, in every continent - like a nasty rash. :) Old habits are hard to break.

So, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Malaya, being smack in between those two countries, and strategically on the ocean trade route, would be a place where both Indian and Chinese merchants would meet.

Both originating from very highly populated countries, it also isn't a tall order that they would notice the beauty of Malaya and decide to call it home. In fact, the very word 'Malaya' has its roots in India.

I'd expect the Chinese settled down in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaya and the Indians on the West Coast. The East Coast and West Coast are separated by the Titiwangsa range, but I'm fairly certain the Chinese and Indians would have gone over to explore "the other side".

This is where the trouble starts. I hate to break it to you, ladies, but we're going to have to shoulder the blame for this one, because this is probably what happened.

A nice, well-brought-up but unconventional Indian girl would have probably wandered a little too far off from her Indian village and into a neighbouring Chinese one.

She'd have hidden behind a tree and watched a Chinese man cut down a tree, all the while noticing the outline of his muscular chest, unhidden by hair and his skin light in colour. She'd have muttered, "DAMN!!!"

Similarly, a nice, well-brought-up but unconventional Chinese girl may have observed an Indian man at work, admired his hairy chest and his deep tan, all the while whispering, "DAMN!!!"

Now when a woman has made up her mind, it is next to impossible to try and change it. So the rest, as they say, is history.

And the moral of the story is, men should have been prohibited from walking around without a shirt on. But it's obviously too late to argue over that now.

I realise I have gone off-tangent (and that's nothing new, of course), but what I was trying to say, is that Malays are essentially a cross-product of the Chinese and Indians, because frankly, the whole of South East Asia is.

Forget Malaysia. Indonesia obviously has its roots very deeply entrenched in India, even if you look beyond the superficiality of its name. When I'm at the airport, I still get confused between India and Indonesia. IND or INA?

And the currency? You'd think they'd get a little original. But nope, the 'rupee' became 'rupiah'.

The Indonesians seem to be proud of their Indian heritage - Bali has been so well-preserved. Very fascinating, since Indonesians are actually more Chinese than Indian, as the Bugis are the product of intermarriage between the Chinese and the Arabs!

The nephew of Daeng Kemboja was appointed the First Sultan of Selangor. That makes the entire Selangor Sultanate part Arab, part Chinese! Let's not get into the other Sultanates - Perak, Kelantan and Johor.

Like Shanghai Fish says, history is determined by the lessons taught within a civil society, pre-determined by a select few so-called "scholars".

If it is repeatedly fed to us, it will be interpreted as the gospel truth. If unchecked, this can lead to a total distortion of historical facts and if when a lie is spun too often, we tend to actually believe it as the truth.

Like poor little Ahmad Ismail, who lives in denial.

Oh gosh, the idiot in the photo will go on and on spewing bigotry without an inkling of the beauty of this coelho-like statement: 'I believe that nothing actually belongs to us'.

Meanwhile, between admiring my biceps (not gamma-irradiated by the way) and walking around the taman shirtless, i actually coincidentally thought of the damn matter too. And then some.

Why don't they just bring the whole damn matter to a conclusion? Who knows tomorrow those who think might is right will decide that all non-malays will be confirmed as pendatang's. Yes, label the whole lot pendatang's. Don't keep it in and then spit it out now and then. Just blast away. Who will be surprised if they are quick to include non-muslim indigenous natives well as those filipinos hiding in Sabah? Who will not be surprised if they however omit by commission those indonesians whose next generations will be the new toyo's and who had somehow managed to get legal ICs for RM50 'processing fee'?

So, 49.7 percent of the Malaysian population, you're out, stateless, unwanted, illegal, bocor. You can take your birth certificate, tattered and browned by the flood waters of '52 or even '41, and burn it with your mykad and sijil kerakyatan. Make a bonfire and light up this country with the most monumental conflagration ever and ever seen.

Go ahead, Umno ultras incorporated. Screw half the population of this country. Do it in one fell blow. Make sure you do it correctly once and for all. Make it a thorough, best-of-breed, kickass, worldclass blowjob. Give it to them bloody pendatang's for being such a pain to you in this country.

Just do it. Or forever hold those slutty mouths shut.

Does anyone have Ahmad Ismail's contact details? I would like to send him this article and ask him again who he thinks as pendatang.

Yes, I try to lurk on your blog from time to time, but it's highly irregular. Don't expect too many comments too often. Except when I'm waiting for a night bus and avoiding the midday sun.

I think you're most recent decision to consider all of southeast asia as a mix of Indians and Chinese is preposterous, by the way. You're neglectiging the actual indigenous people at the time of foreigner immigration (not just those that remain now). Just because they intermarried readily and may not exist in a pure form anymore doesn't mean they didn't exist :)

Crankster said...

Naga - might be good to check if the pendatang can read, much less in English.

Kev, I'm more surprised you're here at all. As for my claims, they were directed at the majority of the South-East-Asian population.

We still have our indigenous tribes, the orang asli and few of them actually intermarried with the newcomers (indians and chinese, before they created the mix of malays, that is) and the orang asli still exist in pure form.

Ello..

Totally off topic, but just wanted to tell you that I've sent you and email. Will be waiting for your reply!

Rugikah minta maaf?-Malaysiakini
Oleh Fuad Rahim

KETUA Umno Bahagian Bukit Bendera, Datuk Ahmad Ismail cukup popular sekarang.

Bak kata pepatah, mengalah bukan bererti kalah.

The Chidambaram sinking off the coast of Penang was a Disaster,Ahmad Ismail's grandparents swimming back to the Island was a Catastrophe !

Just a short one. We tend to mix up 'race' (as in blood or biological relations) and 'cultural traits'. They don't belong to the same group and the whole idea of intermarriages between Indians and Chinese that brought about the existence of 'brown skinned' race isn't true at all. Well, unless if you're joking, of course. :)

I agree with you on some the cultural relations between India and most of the south east asian countries. One example is the country 'Indonesia' literally means 'India of the East', a term used by the European colonializers to name its colonies. But I think this argument goes beyond the existence (or idea) of a nation-state. Who is a 'pendatang' is not the most relevant question here otherwise the Malays would be a 'pendatang' in the Orang Asli's point of view.

Oh, one interesting thing that I read in a journal called Indonesia vol. 26 (1978) and also a book To Live As Brothers (1993) by Barbara Andaya, was that the term 'Melayu' first appeared in text referring to a settlement in south Sumatra, which subsequently became part of Srivijaya. Interestingly, this text was written by a Chinese called Yijing sometimes in 650+ CE. 'Melayu' was referred to primarily in Sumatra and none at all in Malaya.

So, who came to Malaya first? Well, Buddhist inscription was found in Kedah as early as the 7th century, an evidence pointing towards Indian contact. Yijing himself was in Kedah in 671CE en route to study Buddhism in India.

To keep it short lah, it was not until the 14th century that a migrant from Palembang decided to revive the glory of Srivijaya (which fell in Sumatra) in the peninsula. 15th century saw the revival of Melayu (migrants from Palembang, remnants of Srivijayan citizens), which brought about the writing 'Sejarah Melayu' and 'Hikayat Hang Tuah'. The words 'Tanah Melayu' were scattered all over these scripts.

While busy writing these manuscripts about 'Melayu' history almost immediately upon their arrival, the Chinese and Indian were already settled for generations in the peninsula. No need to mention the Orang Asal who has been here at least 5-8,000 years before anyone else.

So, Ahmad and Co., tell me Who Is The Pendatang?

LOL!

Good take. I like the part of the Chinese and the Indian girls wondering away from the villages...

Have you ever blinked in wonder the way Chindians look so much like Malays sometimes?

Btw, the so-called true blooded Malays should be proud of their ancestors from Yunan, China. This is FACT.

Meanwhile, can someone clean up Lembah Bujang so that Bali can have some competition??

Hey Crankster,

Nice post! But why lah, you spoit it with that pix, ah?!? So very the ugly wan!

Btw, tell Tehsin that Chinamen CAN be muscular. Only have to ask me, mah! Hahaha! My Chuan has lovely muscles; esp when I met him 28 years ago. Now? Hmmm, still got lah, but now old lah, so not so tebal like before lah. But still good enuf for me ;)

I wish we could look at history and just be proud of who and what we are. There is no shame in being whatever race you happen to be.

I myself am 'mixed' as are my children. So what? I think it enriches us, and makes us more exotic and beautiful, and gives us better brains. (Everyone knows intermarriage makes idiots,no?!)

So ..., dating a lot, eh? Cool! How will you find the good ones if you just stick to one idiot, and not go out there and discover what the world has on offer?!

Pat

Pat said...

Ooops, me again

I wrote 'intermarriage' when I meant something else! What is it, anyways, when you marry an uncle or cousin or someone from within your family? Not quite 'incest' yah? But eeewwwww! just the same, and you know what I mean....

Pat

Michelle, got your email, will reply soon.

Knights, I love your sense of humour!! :))

Adam kiyung, no I wasn't joking. But I don't include the orang asli in the mix of what has become the 'malay' race. As for whatever we've learned in our history books, (like everything else in Malaysia) it needs proof before I'm inclined to believe it.

Tzarina, definitely blinked in wonder before. Everytime during bulan Ramadhan, I have to avoid going out to eat or have drinks with any chindian friends because either people STARE at us or ask for IC. Once my mother got stopped by some religious dept guy. But she's got distant Malay ancestry, so ... hahaha!!!!

Pat, inbreeding makes idiots. :) But I understood what you meant. As usual. :)
